Kyiv demands security guarantees from the US. War with Russia cannot happen again, and this is a matter of critical importance! The US is trying to broker a temporary ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia in exchange for easing sanctions against Moscow. This is an attempt to revive the talks, but importantly, such efforts are causing serious concerns in Ukrainian circles.
An important element of the agreement is security guarantees for Ukraine, without which it would be irresponsible to make any concessions. Sources familiar with the negotiations claim: “They want Ukraine to agree to everything possible, or not to create any difficulties at all.”.
After Trump announced a three-day ceasefire from May 9 to 11 in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, it became clear that this was just a maneuver to celebrate Victory Day. Moscow likes it, but can we trust that such a ceasefire will last? What demands will Putin make in exchange for a longer pause? Too many questions - too few answers.
US diplomatic efforts have not yielded any significant progress. Three key issues continue to block the talks, in particular, Russia's territorial claims, which are the litmus test of the conflict. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius claims: Putin uses deception for his own purposes, teetering on the edge of domestic problems.
But peace is possible only if the Russian president stops the killings, declares a credible ceasefire, and sits down at the negotiating table without unacceptable conditions for Ukraine. As Finnish President Alexander Stubb notes, Europe must start independent negotiations because the American approach does not meet our interests.
The world needs truth, communication on equal terms, without manipulation and procrastination. War is not just geopolitics, it is our survival!
