The President's Office responded to the loud statements of the press secretary Mendel, indicating that "this lady has been out of her mind for a long time." Zelensky's former press secretary from 2019 to 2021, Yulia Mendel, in an interview with Tucker Carlson, stated that Ukraine was supposedly ready to give up Donbas at negotiations with Russia in Istanbul in 2022. This was a blatant manipulation. "I communicated with those who represented Ukraine at the negotiations. They barely agreed. And what was most shocking, Zelensky personally agreed to give up Donbas," - with these verbal attempts to distort the truth, Mendel shocked society.
In her version, the president allegedly took this step “to stop the horrors of war.” But now he is balancing in front of millions, claiming: “I cannot give up Donbas.” Isn’t this a carefully chosen position? Presidential advisor Serhiy Lytvyn, speaking to journalists, bluntly stated: “This lady did not participate in negotiations and decision-making, it is not serious.”.
And Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council, instead called her words conspiratorial. He insists: “The fact remains a fact – Ukraine has been fighting for its territory since 2014. The issue of giving up territories has never been and will never be.” And this is reality! No one will be able to “give away” Donbas. We must protect our land, our authenticity!
Zelensky categorically rejected the idea of giving up Donbas. This is the path to occupation, to repression against Ukrainians. Our independence is not up for discussion!
