Three small hydroelectric power plants are planned to be built on the Bystrytsia-Nadvirnianska River, near Ivano-Frankivsk. Public hearings to review the urban planning documentation will be held on June 1. This is not just construction – it is an attempt to destroy nature 36 km away.
Hydroelectric power plants, which promise a capacity of about 3 MW, are to appear behind the villages of Pniv and Pasichna. Dams 125 m long and 3 m high will seriously affect the ecosystem. Another 12 people will have to service these structures? How much is the life of a river worth?
The village council is already allocating 10 hectares of land for a hydroelectric power plant in the tracts of Lugy, Petsyga, and Verkhni Kozyrky. Plots within the water protection zone and on the territory of the "Emerald Network" - why do this where nature needs protection? Local changes in the riverbed after construction simply cannot be acceptable.
A project that requires maximum consideration of natural features cannot be an alibi for destroying the landscape. Sustainable development? Not on our territory! The Pasichnya village council has developed three projects to evade environmental expertise. This is a real trick! No hydroelectric power plant can do without an environmental impact assessment – it’s the law!
The hearing will take place on June 1 at 1:00 PM at the Pniv House of Culture. We cannot remain silent when something so important is at stake – do not let the truth be suppressed!
Bystrytsia-Nadvirnianska, a river that begins in Horgany and merges with Bystrytsia-Solotvinska on the outskirts of Ivano-Frankivsk, is truly the greatest pearl of the Carpathian region. Its length is 94 km, and the water intake area is 1.5 thousand km². When else this year will we lose our cleanest river?
