Ukraine's chief negotiator Rustem Umerov is preparing for a new meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in Miami as peace talks stall, Bloomberg insiders say. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are ongoing, but they are now in limbo as they are dragged out by the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran. Vladimir Putin makes no attempt to hide the fact that he is not giving up his territorial claims to parts of Donetsk region. The previous stages of the negotiations, although they have brought some progress, will not be able to distract us from the main obstacles: the status of Donbas and the unclear security guarantees that Ukraine must receive from its allies. Moscow demands that Ukraine withdraw its troops, while Kyiv steadfastly holds on to its territorial integrity and does not recognize any occupied lands. According to Bloomberg sources, the agenda for the upcoming meeting remains a secret. “Kyiv hoped that Witkoff would go to Ukraine with Jared Kushner. But this is a big question. The presidents invited both, but confirmation of the visit has not been received,” the article states. Ukraine is preparing for new attacks from Russia and is calling on Western allies to speed up deliveries of air defense systems, as the winter months could be one of the most critical in the war. Meanwhile, former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated: Ukraine is achieving results on the battlefield, while Russian forces are suffering serious losses. At the same time, Moscow is threatening strikes on the eve of May 9, sending warning notes to international diplomatic missions.
