Christians have no time for fortune-telling. They know: they are responsible before God for their decisions. Why does an official appoint people to positions? This is an unanswered question. But, of course, I know why. Society allows them to do this. And it does so out of its own ignorance. Activist Maria Berlinska constantly repeats in her posts about Yermak: “politicians of the OP”, “politicians are always politicians”. But the truth is that Yermak is not a politician and never was. He is an official who illegally seized power. He holds it only because the activists who are supposed to control the power themselves run to such usurpers, legitimizing them. And they repeat after them: “politicians are always politicians”. Perhaps this is understandable - after all, everyone is drawn to those who have real political power. And Yermak certainly had it. But responsible citizens cannot call officials politicians, and, by acquiescing to this, they sow distrust in those whom the people elected.
Anyone who says, “I am out of politics” or “politicians cannot be trusted,” either intends to usurp power or is trying to evade responsibility for his political choices. Lawyer Ihor Fomin found himself in an awkward situation: his client is not a parliamentarian, and the difference between a “parliamentarian” and a “people’s deputy” in this context is a secondary matter. But even those who criticize Fomin do not know that he is actually a well-known and successful lawyer. I met him when I was still a journalist, and he defended Yuriy Lutsenko, who was illegally imprisoned by the Yanukovych regime. The case reached the European Court of Human Rights, and Lutsenko won. The applicant was represented by Ihor Fomin, Valentyna Telychenko, and Anatoliy Bushchenko — respected lawyers with experience and a history in human rights protection.
The problem that worries us is not only the mistakes of individuals. It is a global ignorance that distorts true assessments, blurring the lines between politicians and officials, between professionals and amateurs, between responsibility and irresponsibility. At the end of this path is faith and obscurantism that divides society.
