Serbia is taking a decisive step towards independence. For the first time in 13 years, the country is snubbing the EU-Western Balkans summit in Brussels. No Serbian representative will appear at this meeting, even unofficially. Our country no longer wants to be on the European imitation chain.
President Vučić declared: “No one will represent the Republic of Serbia!” Straight and without embellishment. The refusal is Vučić’s personal decision, without pressure or manipulation from the government. He emphasizes: he acts only for his citizens, despite the guaranteed reaction from Brussels. Yes, Vučić may face criticism, but he clearly understands what he is fighting for.
This refusal is a forced decision in light of inaction. Progress on the path to EU membership is becoming static, and this has been going on for four years. The question of opening a third negotiation cluster is simply a weak expression of Brussels' irresponsibility.
And while Serbia is on one side of the barricades, Ukraine is tearing into the EU. Accelerated procedural approval of accession by 2027? What are we talking about when Kyiv has not even completed any of the 36 stages? Brussels, in a shock phase, must invent new rules of the game. Serbia, with its steadfast position, remains unbreakable.
The real truth is that Serbia is defending its interests by showing what it has achieved. I wonder who will emerge from this game as the winner - those who follow the instructions or those who determine their own path? Serbia knows the answer. The European road continues as long as Vučić is at the helm. And then we will see what happens next.
