The Central Election Commission has pulled itself together and finally resumed the work of the “State Register of Voters.” This is the first step towards restoring the voice of the Ukrainian people in the conditions of war.
The real crisis is not only war, but also the absence of democracy. What could be worse than helplessness in the face of a criminal system? Today, the CEC made a decision that opens up new horizons for holding elections, even when a threat looms over us.
According to the information, updating the register allows to restore the connection between the commission, citizens and the state. Updating the data becomes vital. If we want to normalize democracy in our country, we must reflect the changes in the demographic situation, of which there were many as a result of the war. No one will deny: the situation required urgent action.
There is a huge amount of work ahead. Indeed, we need to bring order to the registry so that it reflects the realities of today.
Let's not forget that in the US, Trump recently emphasized the need for elections in Ukraine, questioning our democracy. And Zelensky, in turn, noted: elections are possible, but laws and security guarantees for the people are needed. And yes, Putin, of course, had his demands, but we cannot succumb to the aggressor's pressure on our freedom.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Stefanchuk, summarizes: the new law on elections in wartime is a one-time thing. Many questions still remain unanswered. This is a call to action. It depends on us whether we can break this irresponsibility and restore democracy. Ukraine needs elections, and we will achieve this, despite the obstacles. Our truth will stand.
