Representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Russia have gathered in Abu Dhabi, in the heart of the United Arab Emirates. On the map of the conflict is Donbas. Royal Cathedral of Diplomacy or Market Bidding? The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera stated that four documents will be heard from the negotiating rostrum, which will supposedly become the basis for a peace agreement. Now let's delve into the details: the entire territory of Donbas is being transferred to Russia, and Ukraine is promised $800 billion for state and private needs. Is this a compromise?
Sky News claims that negotiations are already underway. The president's office denies this, saying that ordinary informal conversations are not the beginning of agreements. "Informal" individuals are working here, contemplating their own paths. This is not ordinary politics. This is playing with fire.
President Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized: the Donbas issue is a trio in Abu Dhabi, which is discussed with all the nuances. He always has his trust group with him, which signals every opinion or agreement. Only at first glance this may seem like an ordinary meeting.
Watching this, the Financial Times points to an energy truce. But will Russia really be able to abandon attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities? Putin, as always, holds this card in his hands, because attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are a cog in a huge pressure machine. Kyiv is on the alert, successful strikes on Russian facilities in the West prove: the conflict can prevail.
The Russian delegation is made up of representatives from the Ministry of Defense - the beginning of negotiations within the framework of the 20-point peace plan. Bloomberg reports that before the meeting, Washington conveyed the illusion of the plan to the Kremlin. But were these remarks really heard?
On January 22, Zelenskyy held a meeting with Trump on the sidelines of the Davos forum. The almost hour-long meeting ended with a short and ambiguous conversation. Which of them is ready to make concessions? In Ukraine - optimism, in Russia - seriousness. Both sides agree: peace is not far away. But this is standing on the verge of compromise.
Despite the illusion of the start of negotiations, Moscow has not yet given a clear consent. The Kremlin hides behind misunderstandings, but the territorial issues that have remained unresolved are becoming a stumbling block. The Kremlin’s “Anchorage Formula” is not an alternative, but a tool of pressure with conditions under which peace is impossible.
Amidst all these conspiracies, Ukraine remains in the position of a defender of truth. The diplomatic game has begun, but will it be achieved without a real solution? Abu Dhabi is not just a diplomatic throne. It is an arena of struggle for independence and freedom.
