The European Union must urgently take its fate into its own hands. The creation of a joint military force is not just a choice, but a vital necessity. The American troops, which currently number about 100,000, can no longer be the basis of our security. We must replace them, and this is an obvious truth.
At a security conference in Sweden on January 11, Kubilius stated bluntly: Europe needs a standing military force of at least one hundred thousand soldiers. This is our shield, our strength. How else are we going to replace these standing American forces? No illusions.
Then there is more. Kubilius proposes the creation of a “European Security Council,” where representatives of only the leading EU countries, perhaps even the United Kingdom, would discuss key defense issues. Just imagine – a circle of influence that would be able to make decisions quickly, change the course of the war in Ukraine. This is not just talk, this is action.
On January 10, the Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Álvarez, also with the voice of the builder of the new Europe, called for the creation of its own European army. He looks to a future full of independence. It is time to free ourselves from third countries and allow the EU to strengthen its own security.
And France? In a country where left-wing politicians are initiating a resolution to withdraw from NATO, voices of opposition are once again being heard. They see the Alliance not as a protector, but as an instrument of American interests. France has already partially abandoned NATO's military structure due to strained relations with Washington in 1966. Is it ready to embark on the path of power again?
We live in a time when every country must act, not just watch. Let's leave pseudo-friendship, let's choose independence and strength. Europe requires an army, Europe wants the truth without embellishment.
