Merz is ready for dialogue with Putin on one condition

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz may be part of the conversation with Putin, but only if Russia demonstrates a genuine willingness to negotiate an end to the war against Ukraine. This statement was made by German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful in an interview with Bloomberg. Asked if a phone call between Merz and Putin was possible? Wadeful replied: “It could happen at some point.” But he noted: the basis for the negotiations is laid within the framework of the “E3” format, which includes Germany, Great Britain and France. The Europeans are not just observers, they are ready to play a more active role in the dialogue between Ukraine and Russia.

In addition, it will not work to intimidate Germany! Regarding the Kremlin's threats to abandon diplomatic relations with Kyiv, Vadful was categorical: “No, of course not.” They are waging not only a military war, but also an information war. Russia believes that it can break support for Ukraine globally, but this is an illusion. Germany's worldview remains unchanged: they are strong allies of Ukraine, despite the pressure.

Previously, former Chief of Staff of the German Ministry of Defense Nico Lange noted that the peace talks initiated by the United States have not worked. Only a small group of European countries truly support Ukraine, but they do not have a clear strategy. Instead, President Zelensky emphasizes the importance of dialogue with Russia, hoping for a renewal of diplomatic efforts to end this war.
