Refusal from NATO – simulation or real determination?

A new phase of manipulation is beginning in Ukraine, with refusal to join NATO being presented as a path to peace. But this “concession” is unlikely to affect the course of the peace talks, two American security experts say. Volodymyr Zelensky is trading his desire for NATO membership for vague guarantees from the United States and Europe, trying to portray his political position as wisdom. But this is just a play on words.

Justin Logan of the Cato Institute states bluntly: the reality of Ukraine joining NATO has become a thing of the past. And his colleague, Andrew Michta, does not hesitate to call it “a trivial issue.” What are the real alternatives to Ukraine’s security? Logan emphasizes the need to find other ways to secure our country from aggression, but is there a real goal in this, or is it just an illusion?

Brett Bruen of the Global Situation Room notes: this is Zelensky's move against the Kremlin's unconditional unacceptability. But what does he get in return? In words - support from the United States, which may turn out to be just an empty promise. Trump may say that he will protect our skies, but should we take his word for it? After all, more is needed than a promise - international reality does not tolerate frivolity.

Security guarantees? Ukraine has long lacked support in preventing a second attack from outside its borders. Refusal from NATO seems to open up new horizons, but in reality it calls into question the honesty and determination of our leaders. As former Foreign Minister Kuleba stated, NATO membership is most likely not for us. So we need to look for alternatives that will truly guarantee stability and peace.

This process is a struggle for independence, not a passive response to aggression. Ukraine needs more than just words – it needs action. It is time to demonstrate true strength and determination in defending our freedom.
