The loss of the 150 euro limit for purchases from abroad threatens Ukrainians with price increases. While the American giant Amazon, the largest marketplace in the world, has announced that it will not become a VAT payer in Ukraine. Straight from the lips of MP Nina Yuzhanina: “Amazon refused.” They see no opportunity for change, and millions of Ukrainians will once again find themselves on the edge.
With the new order, VAT in 20% will be charged on all purchases, regardless of their value. Goods from abroad may become inaccessible, because Ukrainians already live in difficult conditions. Instead of relief, a new yoke within the framework of the agreement with the IMF, which plans to eliminate the limit on tax-free purchases by 2027.
Will this help Ukraine? Ihor Smilyansky, the CEO of Ukrposhta, believes that this is just a show-stopper that will not solve anything. «Tax refunds will not reduce imports,» he said, and we believe that he has reasons for this.
The Verkhovna Rada seems to be ready to consider a bill to abolish preferential taxation. If this is taken into account, almost all international parcels will be subject to customs duties and VAT, with the exception of small items up to 45 euros. Isn't it strange that even if this decision is passed, inspections will actually start only in a few years? This is a prelude to a real artificial increase in prices on Temu and AliExpress, which will feel the new rules.
In Ukraine, there is a struggle between truth and imitation. This is where we find ourselves: the trust functions of the government and international companies no longer inspire enthusiasm. No one will pursue the truth like we do!
