Estonia and Latvia have said: negotiations between Europe and Russia must resume. And the price of international security is rising while peaceful diplomacy is being imitated from above. European countries must become part of the peaceful talks about Ukraine, otherwise it will be neither peace nor negotiations.
“We need to work diplomatically. We always need to talk. But at the same time, Russia must remain isolated, and sanctions must continue to operate,” Silinya is convinced. Real voices must be heard. The European Union, more than ever, must sit at the table, because Ukraine is already ready to interact.
Estonian President Karis did not name any specific names, but emphasized that the envoy must be from a powerful European country and have authority over both sides. Isn't the idea of sitting in the shadows while the aggressor plays his games outdated? The fight for truth against irresponsibility is what is needed now.
The words of Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, are eloquent: Europe cannot remain on the sidelines. We need to establish real contact with the Russian leader to prevent the US from leading the peace process alone. Perhaps the most important thing now is to find a platform that will allow Europeans and Ukrainians to be active participants in the negotiations, rather than observers relying on someone else.
The system is breaking down, and we can stand united against it. It is time to choose: to act or to wait for others to decide for us. True diplomacy requires bold steps that we should have taken long ago.
