The main question of the negotiations on the end of the war: will Ukraine remain sovereign in the end, or will they “bend us” and continue to talk to us at best from a position of strength. Valeriy Chaly, the former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, honestly states: we are “fed” with mantras about 100% security guarantees from the United States, emphasizing the supposedly ready-made agreement. But Ukraine is offered a “world of prosperity” for 800 billion dollars, without a real understanding of what the “Anchorage formula” with “territorial solutions” is. No one has the courage to explain what this means.
The real issue is whether we will retain our independence or be humiliated again, forced to negotiate in a helpless position. Chaly compares these negotiations to a “pig in a poke” — from which, by the way, “the wool is being mercilessly scraped.” What seems acceptable to negotiators may turn out to be completely disconnected from the realities faced by our people. The result may be a trap where promises turn out to be unfulfillable. I hope our diplomats realize this critically important point.
Negotiations are ongoing. Abu Dhabi has shown potential, but without progress, and the Kremlin assures us that it is still at the initial stage. In the American capital, it is about a constructive approach, but we know that actions must prove words. It is difficult to accept the truth when there is so much falsehood around.
