Ukraine announces its intention to start exporting apples to India. The first successful test step opens the door for Ukrainian producers to conclude contracts and pave the way for regular supplies. We are talking about numbers: UAH 500 million annually for 500 containers. This is not just a prospect, but a reality, confirmed by Volodymyr Pechko, head of Ukrsadvinprom.
Serhiy Tkachuk, Head of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, emphasizes: the trial batch confirmed readiness for the Indian market. Producers finally have the opportunity to operate and conduct real trade.
But not everything is so simple. Logistics is our Achilles' heel. Transport to India takes much longer than to the usual markets. We calculate: the volume of export-oriented apples has not yet been reached. Currently, their number is limited, because we distribute the apples between the markets of the Middle East and Europe.
Pechko does not hesitate: «We could supply about 500 containers to India every year. This is a huge amount of money.» His forecast: real exports could begin as early as next year. However, gardeners are trying not to stop at foreign markets, because domestic prices are higher. Why? Because there is more profit here.
Let's not forget that Ukrainian apple exports in 2024-2025 decreased to 16.8 thousand tons for $10.1 million. This indicates a certain crisis situation. Compared to the previous year, there was a decline of 64%, when there were 47 thousand tons.
Indian reality: Every year, this country imports about 500-560 thousand tons of apples worth over 400 million dollars. The main players in the field are Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan and the USA.
History shows: in 2025, Ukraine became the world leader in frozen raspberry exports for the first time. This shows that we are not just willing, but capable of fighting for our place under the sun.
