Russia has struck again! Its shelling of Ukrainian gas production facilities is not just aggression, but a war against energy independence. On the threshold of winter, Ukraine has only 13.2 billion m³ of natural gas in underground storage. This is not enough! For the normal course of the heating season, more than 4 billion m³ are needed. And these are not just numbers - this is life, this is comfort, this is independence!
Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Oleksiy Sobolev emphasizes that financing for imports has already been partially secured, but a deficit of $100 million remains. The context of the war requires action, because in the spring of 2025, Russian troops destroyed half of Ukrainian gas production capacities, but we restored them to the level of 110%! I am proud of our resilience!
But there is more – this fall, Russia attacked again, destroying another 40% of opportunities. And again, our international partners come to the rescue: Norway and other financial institutions, giving us a chance to confront the Kremlin’s irresponsibility.
Serhiy Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine, tells how last year the company purchased about 6 billion m³ of gas, of which hundreds of millions of cubic meters came from the USA. There are no direct contracts with LNG suppliers yet, but this does not stop us! We are actively negotiating with the Polish holding Orlen, which supplies liquefied American gas upon urgent requests. This is our response to the challenges!
But that's not all. Ukraine urgently needs equipment to support the gas system - compressors, turbines and gas injection equipment. After all, every day is a new battle, a new challenge from the enemy that we must overcome!
