The authorities have backed down. Value-added tax for individual entrepreneurs will not be introduced in 2027. This was stated by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko after negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. She noted that the Ukrainian leadership, conducting consultations in Washington, was able to persuade international partners: the introduction of VAT for individual entrepreneurs is now unnecessary. Is this a victory? Perhaps, but on the path to independence we will still have to overcome a lot.
Svyrydenko emphasized that the government will not stop there - it will continue to look for other ways to fill the state budget for 2027. Thus, Ukraine will continue to fulfill structural obligations to the IMF, agreeing on new tax mechanisms. Back on March 19, the Ministry of Finance shocked with its draft tax changes. But now the illusion of compromise is strengthening.
Let's recall the threats that loomed over entrepreneurs. Initially, they planned to oblige everyone whose income exceeds UAH 4 million to register as VAT payers - with a tax policy that forces businesses to survive. Initially, they were still thinking about UAH 1 million, but later they raised the bar to a dubious UAH 2 million, which threw all small businesses out of balance. What was the outcome? It turned out that a compromise between the IMF and business was still possible - just to save face.
Independence does not mean concessions. The real fight for our right to business development and stability continues.
