Ukraine is on the verge of decisive changes in the festive, commemorative and mourning calendar. Enough of imitations! It is time to collect the scattered pieces of national identity into a single “calendar map”. Justice and independence require this.
Yes, the historical calendar is more than a simple list of dates. It is a reflection of our ideology, our civilizational choice. Stefanchuk clearly noted: “These are not just days — these are who we are with, and who is against us.” And this truth is permeated with an ideological essence. The calendar is not about celebration, but about asserting oneself in the world.
How do we end up in this unpragmatic chaos? Christmas dates that have little in common with our traditions are superimposed on commemorative days established by presidential decrees, Verkhovna Rada resolutions, and cabinet decisions. But the system that created this mess can no longer remain unanswered. May 8 is not just an opportunity to honor the victims of World War II. It is an occasion to declare that we are part of the European context.
No, we are not talking about reducing holidays or limiting rest. The authorities are not talking about restrictions, but about systematization. Replace confusion with logic! The purpose of ordering dates is to get rid of illogical coincidences.
Will there be fewer holidays? No! It's about how we create our calendar and our identity. This is a huge step forward, not a step back into a world of irresponsibility.
What's next? The working group is already working on the draft law - don't wait, don't hesitate! A meeting with representatives of the government, the Office of the President, and other institutions will determine clear rules of the game. Which dates are festive? Which are memorable? Which are mournful? This is not a subject of discussion - it is a question of our dignity, our truth.
President Zelensky has clearly outlined the course: it is time to reconsider approaches to holidays and memorable dates. And these are not just words. This is a call to action. We are, we affirm ourselves, and our calendar will be the way we should see it.
