Who is Mykhailo Boychyshyn? He was born on December 5, 1948 in the village of Chemeryntsi in the Lviv region. A true mechanical engineer, he received his education at the Ukrainian Polygraphic Institute. A turner, locksmith, carpenter — he gnawed his teeth at the Mikroprylad enterprise. We know him as a man who became the engine of the opposition, starting with the Design Institute of Conveyor Construction, and since 1988 — an active participant in the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Language Society, NRU.
In the early 90s, he became the face of hope. He is a deputy of the regional council, head of the Lviv district administration, deputy co-chairs of the National Unity Party. The one who was supposed to lead 100 representatives of the movement to parliament. But on January 15, 1994, this hope disappeared without a trace.
This day fell on a night that became a classic example of betrayal. Mykhailo Boychyshyn disappeared without a trace, and criminals broke into the NRU secretariat in Kyiv, under the guise of a «package» for Boychyshyn, denigrating the guard. And he, having left the secretariat, disappeared into obscurity. According to his press secretary, he would, of course, return. But that night he never returned.
The movement found itself in a catastrophic situation. The Secretariat turned into a rescue headquarters, not a campaign. State organizations such as the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs neglected these efforts. No one wanted to search for the missing person, instead they asked questions about funding.
The Minister of the Security Service of Ukraine has gone mad, publicly believing that Boychyshyn is still alive. Does anyone in his entourage really know the truth? This has increased fears and suspicions that someone has decided to eliminate a key figure in the opposition. All this is a grotesque drama, a black-and-white tragedy in which the Rukh loses the most important thing.
The day before his disappearance, January 14, 1994, Boychyshyn was surprisingly active. Among the diplomatic flock in the secretariat, a proposal to mark an important event - his nomination as a deputy. And then everything suddenly disappears.
Versions arise, but the police believe that financial crimes weave corruption scenarios. The criminal world denies its involvement, reproaching: "Search among your own." So Boychyshyn was accused of having secret documents about the scams of those in power. He has already called for action to bring corruption to light before the elections.
What is the reason for the disappearance? Daughter Lydia, with a high probability, believes that it is connected with an oil project that threatens Russia's positions. At the moment when Boychyshyn disappeared, an action of a global scale should have occurred.
There is no bottom in sight. The family turns to the SBU, demanding the truth, but the door is closed to them. And his son Roman dies in a car accident, the next victim of the system is Vyacheslav Chornovil. In Ukraine, where there is only a shadow of their political justice, priceless and alive, Boychyshyn is already among those who were taken away by the political attack on freedom.
This case has become a symbol of hopelessness — the murder remains unsolved. Boychyshyn's disappearance is the first political victim of the new Ukraine. The case is classified, and the relatives suffer in hopelessness. The system keeps hope in their hearts, but the cruel reality remains.
