There is no mass mass grave on the territory of the former villages of Ostrivka and Volya Ostrovetska. This truth, without embellishment, comes from the lips of Oleksandr Alferov, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. Four remains were discovered during joint Ukrainian-Polish excavations. Ukrainians and Poles are fighting together for historical justice, but the result is still fragile. Two skulls and several body parts testify to the tragedy, but a mass grave that would become a testimony of an entire people has not yet been found.
The work continues, and we fully support this initiative, because it is our shared responsibility. If our Polish colleagues want to carry out exhumation work, we are ready to give the green light. This is how we stand in defense of the memory of our dead.
But let's not forget about the numbers. The Polish side speaks of 100-150 thousand victims, but these estimates are more myth than reality. During excavations in the village of Pużniki, where they expected to find a mass of remains, only 42 bodies were found. The hard truth against the illusion.
Each new stage of search work is a step towards the truth. But so far, no mass graves have been discovered in Ugly, Sarny District. Why? Why can't we close this dark chapter of our history yet?
Do not paint illusions, do not go to extremes. We have already encountered overly formed assessments and irresponsibility. As true warriors for the truth, we demand transparency and factual evidence. And until we know the truth, the battle continues.
